Like N4TRQ I have recently purchased a DV-Dongle, have it working to the point where I can monitor at gateways, but the PTT button is grayed out. I am assuming this is because I am not registered in the network (although I have found nothing about it in the instructions). Because I am nowhere near any D-Star enabled gateway or repeater I too did not think it mattered where I registered or that it mattered which gateway I may have chosen to register with. I initially registered with a far flung gateway that offered a registration page after googling "D-Star registration", only to discover that was the incorrect thing to do. So, I found and registered with yet another gateway that I assumed was closest to me only to discover that registering at more than one gateway is a no-no....Days have past since I have first installed this thing and despite completing at least two registration requests nothing has happened?? What in the world does one have to do to get properly registered in D-Star if you don't have someone locally to be your administrator? I notice a lot of the registration links are either missing or don't work?

Is there another way to get registered? Thanks

Update 7/23 Finally registered after about 5 days. I would suggest anyone that purchased DVD at HRO and having troubles with registration contact Mark at Atlanta HRO. Very helpful.

Two days and counting. I too have been waiting to be "Approved". This is so frustrating! I followed the instructions at http://www.dstargateway.org/D-Star_Registration.html. Nowhere on this page does it say you should not register at more than one gateway.  I am ready to call HRO and get my money back! There has to be a better way. If the gateway administrators are going to view and approve every registration at their leisure, then growth of the D-Star network will be very slow. It is difficult enough convincing local hams that they should buy and use D-Star radios, this waiting several days for approval will seriously hinder D-Star growth.

Keep in mind it is a Holiday weekend and with Shelby going as well, the gateway owners might not have had a chance to get to you....

After 3 days I received approval, I completed registration on the gateway site. Now when I connect to the gateway with my DV Dongle the PTT is still greyed out. "transmit not permitted" What now?Huh

Are you able to log into the Gateway's website using your username and password? Make sure you have the IP Address set for your device in your "Personal Information" page, and you should be good to go.

Also, which software and which gateway are you trying to connect with? Did you select a port?

That's about the extent of my troubleshooting ability with the DVD, so hopefully someone else can help if you're still in need.

I would also like to vouch for Mark at HRO Atlanta, he'll get you straightened out.

You need to go back to the page you registered on and LOGIN again. It should provide you with a message indicating your registration status. I believe you then have to answer some questions ...if you haven't done that, then you probably have not really been registered in the system. Good luck!

If all else fails, contact Mark at HRO.

I notice when I connect to the gateway that I registered with does not allow me to transmit.  But when I got to the reflectors and connect I can transmit.  You might see if you can use one of the reflectors.  I need to get with the keeper of the gateway and see if I can get an explaination of what is going on.

Thinking out loud here but the system may be seeing a dongle gateway which is why it allow connect to the reflectors.

All points of views feedbacks welcome.
