Icom 800 and digital data.

A friend has an 800 and we are trying to work digital data with D-chat and D-Rats. For some reason he can't seem to get the software to talk to the radio.
My 880 set up is different enough that I cant seem to help him. We assume he has something not set right in the radio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
