alternative software to programm the icom ic91ad
« on: June 11, 2008, 08:57:45 AM »
Hi there.  I have just purchased the icom ic91ad, and I like the radio it is definitely feature rich.  However, the rs91 software that came with the radio is totally unaccessible for some one who is totally blind, as the authors of the software did not use windows standard controls for navigation so it almost makes using a screen-reader, and the keyboard impossible.  I've downloaded a config file for my radio that soem one hs sent me, but I'd like to be able to make my own configuration changes etc.  Is there any other software that wil allow me to make changes, and then write it to the radio?  Kind of like icoms software in the past?  I would appreciate some help in this.  Thanks
Justin

Hi Justin,
Currently, I don't know of an alternative, but *ahem* *cough* *cough*, it sounds like a good project for someone to tackle!

Is there anyway that i can get some help on this? If that could happen, then I think that the radio would be more usefull.  I've been able to contact some fm repeaters, but I don't know if I'm on d-star yet.

Justin, Try CHIRP..
I'd used it along with the Icom Software, this might be able to be read by the reader.
I'd also passed some of your comments on to a Local who is blind, and tried explaing what you'd told me of the software...
See if CHIRP will read and help out!..

Oh I've checked out chrip, and I have eamiled the program's author with my issue/concerns, and he said that I'm the only blind d-star user he knows of, and it just wouldn't justify him taking the time and trouble to make chirp more accessible.  Chirp in it's current phase of development doesn't work with windows assistive technology.

RT Systems makes a series of excellent programming software for Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood and more. They should be at theDayton Hamvention.
