Is there any software that will allow me to program my 2820 other than the CS-2820
as I dont want to have to fork out even more money ?

Dan smith has developed a piece of software called chirp.  It is not accessible to one who is blind, but it supposedly works with all the d-star radios, and i think that 2820 is one of them...
