DVAP

I just bought a DVAP to use at home. I am too far from the local dstar repeater to conect at all times.
I bought a DVAP so I could connect when band conditions were not favorable.
I am having trouble getting the thing to work properly. When I try to connect, I get a message connected recieve only. Why can't I transmit?
I am using a ID-880H and a dvap I bought from HRO. I am using the latest software from Dstarusers.org.
When condition are good, I have no troble connecting and talking on the W9PIA DSRAR repeater.
