Minimum Equipment to get started
« on: May 09, 2010, 11:07:16 AM »
I am very interested on D-Star and would like some recommendations on which radio's and equipment one would suggest that would not break the bank. I noticed that Icom has a D-Star compatible radio, the Icom IC-2200H and it runs for around $170 and requires the digital module IC-UT118 module. Is this a good solution or is there something else.

I would like to make a decision quickly so I can make a purchase at the Dayton Hamvention this coming weekend. So your replies will be helpful. I have a WIRES II node but I have noticed that nobody uses that anymore, so it is time for a change.

Thanks.
John

If you are looking for a mobile rig I would suggest the Icom ID-880H.

The 2200H does not have enough "URcall" memories for the current state of D-Star.

The IC-880H is the best value.

See you at Dayton..

Tim,

Thanks for the suggestion. I really don't need another dual-band mobile but I will take your suggestion seriously. If only there was an add-on module to make a non D-Star radio compatible. That would be worth investing in.

Thanks....John
