IC-2200h Display messages?

I've got two friends running the IC-2200H with the UT-118.  My question is weather or not there is a menu option that allows the radio to display received messages.  I have helped them get it set up to use the local repeaters and the gateway, but when they receive they see neither the incoming call-sign or the associated message.  Is there something I'm missing, or does the 2200 just not have that functionality?  I've been through the manual six times and find no reference to it.

The IC-2200 has none of those capabilities.  It's also VERY limited in the memory capacity.  It's a good dedicated-function radio, but probably not the best one to learn what D-STAR can do, because of the limitations.  When they hear all they're missing, they'll soon want more capable radios.

But when they get handhelds or more capable mobiles, don't get rid of the '2200's!  They make GREAT emergency radios, or can be used for things like dedicated emergency use, where the lack of advanced features is less of a limitation.

Well, thanks, it's a bummer, but I think your right, they probably will want more capable radios.  They are having fun as it is, and getting their feet wet in Dstar. 

It's good to know I haven't lost it, I was racking my brain, and that poor little radio, trying to get it to display callsigns.  Oh well.

I know this is an old thread, but yes, there is a way to get the received call signs and messages on the IC-2200H.

Press and hold BANK/OPTION (on the mic) for 3 seconds, press it again and again until you see RXCALL. Press SET (on the mic) to see the call sign. For the message press BANK/OPTION again and again till you see RXM-C1. Press the button under MONI (on the display). Keep pressing MONI to see the whole message. Press CLR on the mic to return to normal operation.

It is not "automatic", but it works. You can send a message too, but you have to keep resetting MESS to ON after every transmission. I have explored everything this radio does. It is not bad for the money. It has plenty of power, channel name programming, and all the basic functions you need for operation. With only 6 repeater call sign memories, it is limited. There is a way to take the received repeater call sign and assign it to R1C on the fly, but you have very few to work with for memory channels. And don't use the auto write features or your stored call signs go bye bye. Just store your favorite three repeater call signs (R1 and R2 gateway) in the six memories and use recall last heard to get the other repeaters.
