What is a "version 2" gateway?

Well, what is it and what does it do different vs. a version 1? I been out of DSTAR for a few months (close to a year actually) and noticed a few changes.

The biggest difference is a central database system which does not become corrupted on a regular basis, and requires coordinated clean up by Gateways admins every 3 or 4 months.  From the user prospective there is not really an changes.  The call sign routing still works etc.  You are required to register with your local Gateway if you want to be able to use the internet functions to contact stations on other gateways. 

The GWV1 network was shut down about May of 2008.

Contact the administrator of the repeater gateway with whom you would like to be registered.  Different gateway's have different registration procedures.  Which gateway were you going to register with?

KI4SBA is the repeater I can get where I'm at. I planned on this one but there are now about 5-6 more DSTAR repeaters that have popped up in the Atlanta Metro area in the past 18 months.

Normally I would be able to tell you who to contact based on the repeater directory entry, but currently we don't have that one assigned to an email address (we initially populated our database with just the information we had).

The best bet for that would be to try to get in touch with the callsign trustee via the QRZ listing.  This one looks like it belongs to KG4UYP.
