Using a DV Dongle with a netbook.
« on: January 24, 2009, 04:12:21 PM »
Hello Gentlmen,
I was at a local Hamfest today with the purpose of asking questions about D-Star and I forgot one. I have a Asus Netbook with a 1.6 gig processor. In looking at the DV Dangle, it says 2+ gig pocessor. Will this work with the 1.6 gig? or does anyone have experience using one of these netbooks with the Dongle. I travel a lot and Echolink is not working of course with the port problems.

I have epc 901, so would be interested in what you find out, I will let you know if I get it running, I have a Dongle, but I have it on a HP notebook with  extra memory and it works fine.  It seems to be a challenge and took me a while to get it running, so have been very lazy in trying it on the 901.  Hope to get a stroke of ambition and then will let you know

Sounds like a deal. I'm using the Asus 1000H. I hate to buy the Dongle and it not work. I'm also looking at one of the icom radio's real soon. Let me know what you find out  and I will do the same.

I have the Gateway version of the netbook and the processor has a hard time doing the job and disconnects every now and then. Of course you do need the latest beta to use DVTool with a 800x600 screen res.

I have an advent netbook 1.6ghz processor 1.5ghz Ram memory.  I bought the DV Dongle not knowing if it would work with the netbook but with my Home PC on standby just in case.
Must say with the DVtool 2.0beta 4. found the installation seamless and the dongle on-air in less than 10 seconds from installation completion.
No tweaks required audio levels fine from inception.
I operate an I-phone with internet tethering whilst out and about and my experience is that on a 3G connection the dongle can lag a little, but on a wireless link I have had perfect operation with mine as I also have when linked hardwired to my broadband connection at home. VERY PLEASED.
