I've been out of the hobby for almost 10  years when I saw a demonstration of this over the weekend.  I've done a tiny bit of digging and it seems like the DV-Dongle seems to have quite a presence in the Unix users.  Now I could be wrong, but I'd like to toss some thoughts I've been having to see if anyone has tried what I'd like to do.

I have a Intel Duo Core2 desktop (running FC8 Linux) and laptop (running Leopard).  I have VMWare running on both machines (free VMplayer on FC8 and Fusion running on the MacPower Book).  I'd like to create a new copy of the guest operating system (either Linux or Windows XP) that will run the Gateway Software.  I plan to give the guest OS it one processor and a Gigabyte of memory.  I believe this should be suffice to run the Gateway software.

Has anyone attempted to install the Gateway 2.0 software to run in a VMWare Guest OS environment?  If you have, have you ever encountered any problems?

Hi Adam,

I am a little confused about what your target goal is.  The "gateway software", when we refer to it, is in regard to the server that is connected to a stack of D-Star repeater equipment.  Are you referring to doing something with that and the dongle, or, are you referring to the operating software the dongle uses?

You might want to run this question by the guys over at the DV Dongle user group on Yahoo, as well.

n5ebw,

I mean the software that makes use of the USB dongle.  Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to have a look at the Yahoo group as well.
