Hello,
How do you connect to the mega reflector 001c? I always get "remote system busy". This is via rf (through our local dstar repeater), not through a dongle.

Took awhile but I got the answer!  There is nothing wrong with my IC-2820 GPS.  I have 2 problems one in the setup that is causing part of the problem and the other is something that cant be fixed until there are more D-Star Repeaters I can hit from my location.

1.  The 1 and only setting for APRS position reports to be correct in the IC-2820 "GPS Map Datum" setting for use in the US is "0".

2.  My map issue is actually caused by the fact that I am at best in a fringe area to the one D-Star repeater that I can hit from my location.  As a result, only 2 packets out of 15-20 are getting thru the D-Star gateway.  Once APRS gets these it draws a line between the points it gets and as a result shows me off track!  Makes sense to me!

Now to the fix:  Wait for more D-Star repeaters to come on line in my area or install a Hot Spot!  I know another D-Star repeater that should be on air in August AA3E located at our County EOC and this should help fix more of my problem!  I am also going to look into a Hot Spot to assist with better coverage into Bucks and Montgomery County PA even with AA3E going on-air soon.

Hope this info helps someone else!

Hi Bruce,

I do not use or have a DVDongle but I remembered seeing help files for them.

Installation:  http://www.dvdongle.com/DV_Dongle/Installation.html

Using DVDongle:  http://www.dvdongle.com/DV_Dongle/Using_the_DV_Dongle.html

RPT1 is the "Port" your using to talk into the repeater.
RPT2 is used for the gateway of the local repeater usually the call with a G in the 8th position.

I am not sure if DVDongles work the same as RF rigs so I may be miss leading you hear.  I hope this helps.

Just an update and a word to the wise (this did not apply to me as I was too much in a hurry to get thru the registration process so I could talk via linking / reflectors etc.)  Any way, AES came to my rescue and set me up on their server the next day!  Now everything seemed fine but thats where it ends.

About a week ago I get an email from the server admin of the first server I registered on that they completed my registration.  Now I am registered on two servers and guess what, now I cant talk beyond my local D-Star repeater!!  I was lucky to stumble into Dave K3KTO (sorry Dave if I got it wrong) who is mostly on Reflector 20 A or B from New Jersey.  He did some checking and found that my problems now were the dual registration.

I had to send an email to the first server admin I had tried to register with to now remove my registration from their system.  Well less than 24 hours later, I get an email that it was removed and within hours I was back working the reflectors again.

Key thing I learned and want to pass on is this:  DONT DO LIKE ME AND REGISTER ON TWO SERVERS.  HAVE SOME PATIENCE......IT WILL TAKE LONGER TO UNDO THE PROBLEM YOU JUST CREATED FOR YOURSELF!! (AND THE SERVER ADMIN WHO HAS TO FIX IT NOW)!!!!

MY SUGGESTION IS THIS, IF YOU ARE ORDERING YOUR ICOM D-STAR FROM ONE OF THE BIG 2 RETAILERS, THEY HAVE THEIR OWN D-STAR REPEATERS AND REGISTRATION.  AS PART OF YOUR PURCHASE, ASK THEM TO REGISTER YOU IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME WITH D-STAR. THINK ABOUT IT, THEY HAVE ALL YOUR INFO IN THEIR RETAIL SYSTEMS BY VIA YOUR CALL ANYWAY! AND YOU WILL SAVE YOURSELF LOTS OF PAIN! BEST OF ALL, BY THE TIME YOU GET THE RIG YOU CAN HAVE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS COMPLETED AND OUT OF THE WAY.

IM NOW HAVING A BLAST WITH D-STAR YOU WILL TOO!

Hi,

I seem to be having a problem with the GPS corrodinates that are being sent to APRS and to my 2820 display no matter what GPS Datum. I tried all 224 of them and none are reporting my correct position on APRS or the display. Using #102 for Eastern USA is about the closest but it has me driving off road thru lakes (yah I would like to see that in real life)!  If I use #000 its even worse.  I have a Kenwood D710 also in the car and it works correctly.  If you go on http://aprs.fi/?addr=19440&mt=roadmap&z=11&timerange=43200 and zoom in some and you may need to change the time to either 12 or 24 hours but you will see my Kenwood in orange (tracking on the correct road) and my Icom in Purple about 1/2 mile to the north driving thru the woods and thru peoples homes!!!!!!

I am located as you can see from the google map located in PA north of Philadelphia so the GPS Datum should be right using 102.  Did I miss another setting?  Both the lat & long are off by about 20-30 seconds.

Any suggestions?

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply.  I posted here as a last resort, after posting twice in the Yahoo dongle group to no avail. Been looking through the Icom and other sites to see if there are more details beyond the specs on the protocol I've received so far. Will keep looking  Smiley

tnx es 73

Hi Bruce, all excellent questions.  Unfortunately, this is probably not the best place to ask.  For specific questions with the dongle, it's configuration, and accompanying software, you might want to pop over to the dongle yahoo group.  The people that developed it created that group, and are there frequently to respond, along with other dongle owners.  You can get there by following this address: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DVDongle/

I'm sure they could answer all of your questions in no time, and sorry we can't be more helpful in that area.

Haven't had success in the new users forum, so thought I would try here:
======================================

Just got my DVDongle running and have a couple newbie questions:

- What is/are the port numbers supported for peer-to-peer (and listen peer-to-peer)?

- Is there a way to add my name to the "DV Dongle" message that shows up to others as I see
in the DVTool DOS window?

- is there a doc that defines the various packet status terms in the DOS window
(e.g. facu, tacu, etc)

Tnx es 73
